BYD’s European Registrations Surge 162% in February, Overtaking Tesla for Second Consecutive Month

BYD Dominates European EV Market, Outperforms Tesla in Key Growth Metric

Data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) reveals a significant shift in the competitive landscape of Europe’s electric vehicle market. In February 2026, overall new car registrations across the continent saw a modest year-on-year increase of 1.7%, reaching a total of 979,321 units. Within this broader market, Chinese EV giant BYD demonstrated extraordinary growth, with its monthly registrations skyrocketing by 162.3% to 17,954 vehicles.

This impressive performance allowed BYD to surpass its American rival, Tesla, by a margin of 290 units. February marks the second consecutive month that BYD has outsold Tesla in terms of new vehicle registrations across the pan-European market, signaling a robust expansion strategy and increasing consumer acceptance for the Shenzhen-based automaker.

BYD’s sustained momentum underscores the intensifying competition within the global EV sector, particularly as Chinese manufacturers aggressively expand into international markets. The consistent outperformance of established players like Tesla in a key region like Europe highlights BYD’s growing influence and its potential to reshape the automotive industry’s future.
